Event center shooting suspect has court case reset for January
JACKSON, Tenn. — A suspect involved in a shooting that injured eight people and killed one woman at an event center in Jackson last month appears in city court.
Matthew Berry is facing multiple felonies including murder, attempted murder and theft charges. Berry appeared in court, in front of Judge Blake Anderson, on Wednesday.
Berry’s family was also in attendance. Berry was represented by Claiborne Ferguson, his new attorney out of Memphis. On October 25, Berry pleaded not guilty to the charges, during which the state requested Berry be held without bond. According to a warrant, on October 20, around 1 a.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to 2310 North Highland Avenue for a shooting.
When officers arrived to the scene, they discovered nine gunshot victims. Two victims were airlifted to a Memphis hospital. One victim later died and another was paralyzed as a result of the shooting. Berry was positively identified in a six person lineup as the person who opened fire in the crowd of people on October 20.
Berry will be held without bond until his next court date on January 22, at 1:30 p.m.
