FHU students choose 2024 Homecoming Court

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Homecoming at Freed-Hardeman University is underway and a special event was held Thursday morning.

From football and basketball tournaments, painting competitions, ‘canstruction’ events, and so much more, FHU has been jam-packed with homecoming events all week. This includes the naming of homecoming king and queen. FHU president David Shannon tells us about the process.

“We are always excited about the homecoming king and queen because they are chosen by the students. Then, the homecoming court, which involves the underclassmen, they are chosen by the students. It just creates this amazing representation of great young men and young women,” said Shannon.

Each nominee was introduced after the chapel service in front of the student body.

We were able to speak to a few of the senior nominees for homecoming king and queen regarding their time at the university.

“Being at Freed [Hardeman University], it’s a super small campus and you come here not knowing anyone and you’re almost forced to make friendships. Within weeks, people you didn’t know at all become your absolute best friends,” said Rachel Hibbet, senior nominee.

Many of the nominees that we spoke to are honored to have been chosen by their fellow students as this shows that they have made an impact on so many throughout their time as a student.

“It just reminds me of all the friendships I have made along these years. And it reminds me of all the memories I’ve had, all the intramural teams I’ve been a part of, people I’ve gotten to meet. It just makes me think maybe my friendship meant something to them as well,” said Spencer Bowen, senior nominee.

The students have voted again for who they believe should be homecoming king and queen. That will be announced Saturday at the basketball games.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are currently undefeated on the season.
