Cafe stirs up attention with specialty ‘Camel Bite’ drink

ALAMO, Tenn. — A local cafe is stirring up attention with a specialty drink inspired by a reality tv star who was recently arrested in their county.

Reality tv fans, here’s your dose of laughs for the day. Stir, a small cafe and coffee shop in Crockett County is entertaining customers with a unique drink inspired by ‘1,000-pound sisters’ star Amy Slaton-Halterman.

It’s called the ‘Camel Bite.’

“So, it’s a caramel apple sprite, and what inspired us was Amy getting bit by a camel at the Tennessee Safari Park,” said Ldyia Waddey, barista for Stir.

Well, allegedly getting bit by a camel. Whether or not the camel actually bit the tv-star is still a mystery. Police were initially called out for assistance with a possible camel bite at the park.

Halterman and her boyfriend were arrested for possession of drugs and child endangerment when police responded to the call.

The owner of the park claims he doesn’t believe a camel bit her. And it’s not a coincidence that the cafe features the specialty drink on this day.

Halterman is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Meanwhile, the coffee shop will be selling ‘Camel Bites’ and anticipating her return.

“We thought it was funny. Everybody could get a good laugh, and maybe Amy will come and see us,” said Waddey.

They say, for the reality star herself, drinks are on them. Reinforcing their mission to uplift spirits and inspire a culture of love and goodwill in their community.

“Well, we’re just a small town. Nothing big like this happens. We just thought it was pretty funny that it happened in Crockett,” said Waddey.

Stir is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Some popular menu items include grilled chicken salad, avocado toast, made from scratch cinnamon rolls and eggs bites.
