West Tennessee Healthcare pays respect to their veterans with special service

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local hospital took the time to highlight their veterans who continue to serve without their uniforms.

“We have somewhere around 100 veterans in our organization, and we wanted to show them our gratitude,” said Amy Garner with West Tennessee Healthcare. “We wanted to celebrate them, their courage, their sacrifice, show them how much we appreciate them.”

Jackson-Madison County General Hospital staff began their morning with a flag raising. Following that, they held their very own Veterans Day program.

“I didn’t serve myself, but it always gives me chill bumps when I hear the music playing and when I see the flag being raised,” Garner said. “I see everybody stand for their branch of service, it just gives me a really special feeling to know that somebody is preserving our freedoms.”

This is the third year West Tennessee Healthcare has hosted this program.

During this time, each military branch is recognized and a keynote speaker shares their lived experience.

“They have served on the battlefield, and now they serve at the bedside here at West Tennessee Healthcare, taking care of our patients, and we just want them to know how important they are to us,” said Garner.

Overall, this Veterans Day at the hospital is time is a moment to honor those that work in healthcare.

“I just love working alongside them, because I know they’re going to give everything their all, no matter what they’re doing,” said Garner. “That’s the experience I’ve had working with veterans, and I just hope everyone recognizes the special talents that our veterans have, no matter what industry they work in.”
