Man accused of killing soldier testifies
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A man on trial for murder says he had used a sedative and didn’t recognize a fellow soldier before firing at him five times inside the house where they were staying last year.
The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/16eoUeJ ) reported that Benjamin Schweitzer testified in his own defense in Circuit Court in Clarksville, Tenn., on Wednesday afternoon. The jury is expected to hear closing arguments Thursday.
The 28-year-old Schweitzer is charged with second-degree murder in the March 15, 2012, death of Sgt. 1st Class Frederic Nicholas “Nic” Moses of the 5th Special Forces Group and with two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with shots fired at police who responded.
Schweitzer said he took Ketamine, a general anesthesia and sedative, the morning Moses was shot and fired as Moses approached, not recognizing who it was.
The 26-year-old Moses was from St. Charles, Mo.
