Humboldt City Schools holds ribbon cutting for new cosmetology, barber classroom

PRESS RELEASE FROM HUB CITY SCHOOLS:

(Humboldt, TN – November 20, 2024) — Humboldt City Schools in conjunction with the Humboldt  Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, November 20th in celebration of the Grand Opening of the new Cosmetology/Barber Classroom in the CTE (Career & Technical Education) Department.

The re-establishment of the Cosmetology program is a result of the Innovative School Model (ISM) Grant from Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee General Assembly.

Humboldt City Schools will receive $500,000+ after applying for grant funding through the ISM program. With these funds, the district, with the guidance of TLM Associates, has redesigned existing classroom space to accommodate the required facilities for Cosmetology and Barber certifications. Students in 9th through 12th grades at Humboldt Jr. Sr. High School can enroll in this path of study and graduate with  cosmetology or barber credentials. This is an outstanding opportunity for students of Humboldt City Schools and is only one of the paths they can choose within the CTE Department.

“We are excited for the growing opportunities available in Humboldt City Schools through the hard work of our staff to obtain grants like the ISM grant,” stated Supt. Dr. Janice Epperson. “These opportunities will provide career path options to our students that have not been available for some time in Humboldt City Schools. We are excited for the future of our students and our community.”

Through this grant program, additions are currently being made to the Health Science pathway that will  lead to students being able to receive their CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant), PCT (Patient Care Tech) credentials, and CPR and EKG Certifications along with their high school diploma. Opportunities for work-based learning are also being explored.
