College student killed in Dyersburg shooting

PRESS RELEASE FROM DYERSBURG STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE:

Dyersburg, TN— The Dyersburg State Community College family is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Arian Anderson, a cherished member and promising freshman on the Men’s Basketball team. Arian passed away on November 25, 2024, leaving a legacy of dedication, talent, and love for the game.

NOTE: State Gazette reported 19-year-old Markell Phillips of Memphis was arrested in relation to the shooting death of Anderson, who was 18.

“I am truly saddened by this heartbreaking news. This loss is felt profoundly and deeply among the college family, and our sympathies go out to Mr. Anderson’s family, friends, and teammates,” stated Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State Community College.

In this difficult time, we encourage our community to unite and support one another. As we navigate this loss, counseling services are available to all students, faculty, and staff. Let us remember Arian for the light he brought into our lives and hold his family, friends, and teammates in our thoughts and prayers.
