UPDATE: Henderson Co. Fire Chief passes away following cardiac arrest, officials say

UPDATE: According to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, Henderson County Fire Chief Lynn Murphy has passed away. Officials say Chief Murphy was a Godly man, a true servant to the Church and his community, a son, a brother, a friend and the best Fire Chief! They ask that the community please pray for his family and his fire family as they navigate this difficult loss.

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — According to a post made by the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association, Henderson County Fire Chief Lynn Murphy has sustained ‘life-ending brain damage’ following a cardiac arrest.

Administrative District Chief for the Henderson County Fire Department, Chadd Gilliam, says that Chief Murphy suffered a cardiac arrest Tuesday within 24 hours of answering an emergency call. Chief Murphy was then transported to a hospital in Jackson where he regained a pulse, but did not regain consciousness.

Gilliam says that during testing Thursday, the physicians advised that Murphy had sustained life-ending brain damage.

The Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association asks viewers to please keep his family in your prayers, along with the other emergency service families in grief across our state right now (Sgt. Rick Finley family from Selmer PD [also served as Deputy with McNairy County SO] & Fire Captain George Turley family in Chattanooga).
