Judge sets hit-and-run suspect’s bond at $100,000

JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman charged in a recent hit-and-run that sent another woman to the hospital appeared Monday in court.

Natasha Washburn faced a judge Monday morning after being charged with hitting 28-year-old Ramiza Robertson with her car on the morning of April 8.

Just outside city court, WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News caught up with relatives of the victim and the suspect. Both families are at odds about the court’s decision of setting Washburn’s bond at $100,000.

“I think it was too high,” Cassie Gantt, Washburn’s sister-in-law, said. “It’s not like she did it on purpose. I mean, she’s never been in trouble before.”

“I think it’s not even high enough,” Victoria Murphy, a relative of the victim, said. “I mean, I don’t even think she deserve a bond.”

Washburn is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving uninsured, failure to maintain lane of travel, and duty to give information and render aid.

Gantt said she did the right thing by turning herself in. “Nobody had to go look for her. She turned herself in,” Gant said. “It wasn’t like they had to come drag her off and take her to jail. She turned herself in.”

Murphy, also a witness, said the family disagrees. “True, they saying she did turn herself in, but look a’here — this happened on Friday night around 12:30 or so. You could have came back at 12:35 because we were there for a while.”

Investigators developed Washburn as a suspect and later found her vehicle with damage matching what occurred during the accident.

The family says Robertson remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

“We’re just praying,” Murphy said. “She’s in so much pain she can’t be awake like we are, and it’s kind of rough.”

Washburn remains in the Madison County Jail. Her next court appearance is set for 9:30 a.m. April 27.
