Day one of Hub Classic Basketball Tournament kicks off
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Hub Classic Basketball Tournament has officially begun!
The 12th annual event gathers local and regional high school basketball teams to compete. The three day tournament began Friday, hosted at Liberty Tech High School.
Funds raised by the games go to support Area Relief Ministries, a long-standing social services organization in Jackson. There are eight girls teams and eight boys teams participating. This means eight games a day — four girls games and four boys games.
They start at around 9 a.m. and go to about 8 p.m.
“As you can see, I’m wearing my Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee. I’m the regional director for West Tennessee so I know basketball and I know everybody all over the state and they speak highly of Jackson basketball, believe me, and this tournament especially,” said Lonnie Starks, head basketball coach for Liberty Tech High School.
As the boys basketball head coach at Liberty Tech, Starks shares that it’s more than just an honor to host this tournament, it’s a privilege.
