Windy on New Year’s Eve, Much Cooler For The New Year
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
After much of the region picked up several inches of rain, things will be cooling down after a second cold front comes through over the next 36 hours. Temperatures will be below average for much of the first half of January. We have all the details right here.
New Year’s Eve:
The high will be in the low 50s on Tuesday, but that high is happening at midnight. The temperature when you would normally expect your high is going to be in the mid-40s. Winds will be strong out of the northwest around 15-20 miles per hour with gusts reaching as high as 30 miles per hour. This is caused by a low pressure system digging its way across the plains and should miss West Tennessee to the north. There is little to no chance of rain with this system.
New Year’s Day:
Temperatures will be much cooler for the start of the new year. We will be in the mid to low 40s across the region with a light north breeze as the pressure gradient begins to widen once again. Skies will begin to clear as much drier air filters in behind the cold front. The overnight low will be in the upper 20s for much of the remainder of the week.
Thursday Onward:
Skies will be mostly clear and temperatures will remain in the low 40s to upper 30s. We see our next chance of rain coming into West Tennessee on Sunday night, where another frontal system will move through, possibly bringing some showers and storms Sunday night into Monday morning.
Final Thoughts:
If the firewood isn’t too soggy from this weekend’s rain, New Year’s Eve is looking like a fantastic night to sit around a fireplace inside to bring in the new year. Although it will be chilly, the weather will be calm and will allow for your year-end festivities to go off without a hitch. Stay safe and have a Happy New Year!
