Suspect identified in fatal shooting at Red Dog Saloon

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT:

[Jackson, TN] – On January 4, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Jackson Police Department responded to a report of a shooting inside the Red Dog Saloon Bar and Grill, located at 1450 South Highland Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found Phillip Dewayne Thomas, a 32-year-old man, at the entrance of the establishment suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Thomas died at the scene due to his injuries.

Witnesses on the scene provided a description of the suspect, leading to a BOLO being issued for him and his vehicle to local and surrounding agencies. Shortly thereafter, deputies in Crockett County conducted a traffic stop on Dantae Connor, a 55-year-old man. Connor was taken into custody and transported to the Jackson Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.

At this time, Connor has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and is scheduled for a formal arraignment on Tuesday morning in Jackson City Court.
