One dead after morning fire in Lexington

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LEXINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT:

At approximately 5:44am this morning, the Lexington Fire Department was dispatched to a  residence located at 303 Natchez Trace Drive in Lexington regarding a structure fire. Upon  arrival firefighters found flames and smoke showing at the duplex style rental property. 

Firefighters were able to suppress the fire quickly as they battled temperatures well below  freezing. Unfortunately, the body of a person was found in the rear of the home as firefighters  fought to extinguish the flames. No smoke detectors were found to have been installed in this  residence. 

As is normal procedure in fire deaths, the Lexington Fire Department requested the assistance of  the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to assist in determining the cause and origin of this fire.  The body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office in Nashville for positive identification  and autopsy.
