Road conditions across the Hub City
JACKSON, Tenn. — The snow has fallen in West Tennessee and many people are wondering about the road conditions.
Around 9 a.m. Friday morning, we started on East Forest Avenue in Jackson to find that the road was nearly perfect. It was very similar to driving around just after a decent bit of rain had come in. There were very little icy patches on this road.
Then we headed north on Highland and it is was more of the same. It seemed like these roads cleared up really well. Just before 9 a.m., we’ve accumulated right around three, close to four inches of snow. But on the roads — some of the busier roads, it was almost perfect.
Over on North Parkway, it wasn’t as clear as we saw on the previous two roads. However, it is still very impressive how they have cleared the roads to make it a whole lot safer for people that have to travel. Again, if you do not have to get on the roads, then it is always recommended to stay inside. You never know what’s going to happen. Especially if the road gets crowded.
Next, we headed down the ramp to get onto Vann Drive to see how bad it is. Most of it has been cleared, but there was still quite a bit of snow left.
When going down the hills, it’s important to remember to drive slowly and use caution. If you are behind someone, make sure you give them plenty of space.
JTA busses were also still going around making their routes. They appeared to still be picking people up and making sure they are getting people to places safely.
As of Friday Morning, not as many people have been on the roads in Jackson. That was as expected with as much snow that has come down as we’ve gone into the morning.
What has been impressive is how well they have been able to clear some of these main roads that are often times more busy and where you see more cars. We still urge people to stay inside if you can as the storm continues and conditions are expected to worsen.
Have fun and stay safe! We will continue to keep you updated on the road conditions.
