Henderson residents step out to enjoy the wintry weather

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Many folks are enjoying a snow day in West Tennessee and if you’re traveling to grocery or convenience stores, remember to practice safe driving.

Over in Henderson, several locals are out and about and excited about the snowy weather. We took a drive to one of the few businesses still open during during the storm — the local Cash Saver grocery store.

We spoke to an employee who is originally from New York. Her enthusiasm for the snow was quite contagious.

“Since we’ve been here, this is our second year that has been a nice good snow storm, so I’m loving it. Nobody else is but I am,” said Gia Applebee, Cash Saver employee.

To our luck, we ran into another person from the northern U.S. who told us that Friday’s snow was a nice surprise to in Tennessee. She also shared a few tips that’s she’s learned from driving in this kind of weather.

“Don’t go over 45 [mph], watch your speed on the hills, don’t spin your tires going up and before you get to the top of the hill, start breaking before you go down. Don’t hit your brakes, don’t slam on your brakes — you’ll slide. [If you] Start sliding? Hit the gas and turn the wheel,” said Monica Luannkilling Beck, shopper.

Normally, as weather worsens, grocery stores tend to run out of essential products. We spoke to an employee at Cash Saver about how they are managing to keep up with demand.

“Pretty much we’re good to go for now. We did get an extra couple of trucks. Other than that, it’s just keeping the stuff stocked up from in the backroom and things like that,” said Applebee.

This snow won’t stay around long, so don’t wait too late to have fun!
