Murder suspect captured in Saltillo after statewide search

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR HOMICIDE AT GAS STATION ON HIGHWAY 51

North Shelby County – Last night, Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting outside of a gas station at the 5300 block of U.S. Highway 51, just south of Fite Road in north Shelby County.

An adult male was transported by Shelby County Fire in critical condition to Regional One Health, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The shooter left the scene by vehicle. SCSO detectives subsequently launched a homicide investigation.

Through investigative efforts, detectives identified the suspect as 39-year-old Anthony Nelson. A BOLO was sent out to law enforcement agencies in the Midsouth area, as well as throughout the state of Tennessee.

Today [1/12/25], at approximately 11:30 am, the suspect was taken into custody in Saltillo, Tennessee, located in Hardin County about 120 miles east of Shelby County.

Hardin County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol executed a warrant in the 1200 block of Dorothy Ann Lane in Saltillo, locating and apprehending Nelson.

Anthony Nelson, 39, was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder. He is currently being housed in the Hardin County jail awaiting transfer to the Shelby County Jail at 201 Poplar.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office for their valuable assistance in taking this suspect into custody.
