Authorities investigate Sunday night fire that left one critically injured

JACKSON, Tenn. — Sunday night, WBBJ tipsters alerted us to a large police presence near Hollywood Drive in Jackson.

The Jackson fire and police departments confirmed a fire response at a six unit apartment complex on Burkett Street around 7:15 p.m.

According to Fire Marshal Latrell Billingsley, only one of those apartments were occupied and that individual has been airlifted to the Med in Memphis in stable but critical condition.

Billingley says there should be no concern of a potential threat for residents in that neighborhood. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

“We made sure we don’t paint ourselves into a corner and saying ‘Oh it was an arson, it was an arson.’ There are a number of reasons — a couple different ways that a fire could have started or transpired at this time or at this location. So, we have some more investigating to do,” said Billingley.

If anyone has any additional information contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400.
