City of Jackson announces district-based pothole repair schedule

JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson Street Department is splitting up the city to tackle one of the biggest problems on the roadways.

The street department is introducing a schedule for pothole repairs across the Hub City. They are dividing the city into four districts to streamline the repairs and make it a more efficient use of the city’s funds. We spoke with Street Department Superintendent Johnny Weddle for more details.

“As we get calls, no matter what district, they would go out and make repairs. Which that was kind of hard on the crews because if we got a call out north they would leave. If they are out south they would go out south then go out north,” said Weddle.

According to a press release from the City of Jackson, residents will still be able to report potholes to the Street Department through the Ready311 program and other reporting systems. When asked about potential travel delays in and around the Hub City, this is what Weddle had to say.

“The reason why we decided to do a district at a time so people would get familiar and see okay today is Monday so those guys will be out probably with some traffic so they can kind of do an alternate route,” said Weddle.

The schedule will be as follows:

So why does District Four get two days?

“We get a lot of calls in there and that’s a lot larger than the one, two and three,” said Weddle.

The new schedule will take effect starting with District Four next Monday, February 3.
