Groundhog Recap, Storms Coming Mid-Week
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
West Tennessee is entering a very warm and currently stable pattern for the next few days. Also we’ll give you a look at what the various groundhogs around the country say about their forecast. Rain and storms will be returning to the Hub City in the middle part of the week. We have all the details right here.
Groundhogs:
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning in Pennsylvania, so he’s predicting six more weeks of winter. Staten Island Chuck, however, did not see his shadow this morning in New York, so Chuck is on team Spring. Short and midrange forecasts support Chuck’s forecast, but we’ll have to wait a while longer to see if it sticks. At least here in West Tennessee, it will feel like an early spring for at least the next 7-10 days.
Monday-Tuesday:
Unseasonably warm temperatures will make there way through the Mid-South all week. Early week, skies will be clear and winds will be light. Things will begin to get somewhat turbulent on Tuesday as a system will move close to West Tennessee. Showers could start to trickle into the region on Tuesday night, but should hold off on the heaviest rain until Wednesday night.
Wednesday-Thursday:
More unseasonably high temperatures will be present, but this time with strong southerly flow at the surface. Storms are likely Wednesday night. Whether or not severe weather is possible on Wednesday completely hinges on how much rain we get before sunset. As of now, the Storm Prediction Center does not have an outlook for Wednesday night. We will keep an eye on this as Wednesday’s low is in the mid-60s. Regardless of severity, showers will likely linger into early Thursday.
Final Thoughts:
It’s going to be a wonderful week in West Tennessee aside from the storms on Wednesday. It will be a nice taste of Spring while we really have a few more weeks until the Spring Equinox. We’ll post updates here periodically. Enjoy the weather and stay aware for Wednesday.
