Lexington Fire Department maintains ISO class 2 rating

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — One local fire department stands among the top ranked and recognized by the Insurance Services Office in Tennessee.

The City of Lexington and the Lexington Fire Department are proud to announce their current class 2/2x Insurance Services Office rating. Maintaining this rating leaves the Lexington Fire Department among the top 35 out of 847 fire departments recognized by ISO in Tennessee.

“ISO is an acronym for Insurance Services Office which is an organization that independently evaluates a community’s ability to fight fire based on NFPA standards and other variables. What that does is they independently review four different components of a community,” said Chief Jeff Middleton.

LFD was evaluated under the following criteria ranging from manpower, apparatus and equipment, response times, emergency mitigation, training, community risk reduction, and public safety education.

The Lexington Fire Department is among the top 7% of all fire departments in the nation.

“Insurance companies can take that and factor that as one component of their efforts to establish rates. The lower the score the better the fire protection is for your community,” said Chief Middleton.

The Lexington Fire Department shares the same ISO rating as the fire departments in Pigeon Forge, Maryville, and Nashville. The city’s maintained score may continue to help residents and businesses within Lexington city limits achieve lower insurance costs. Property owners are urged to contact their insurance company regarding their ISO rating.

“You’re evaluated on a five year cycle. This is the second time we’ve been evaluated and confirmed to have a designation that gets us a two. Men and women of this organization worked really hard to achieve it and they accomplished that with the community in mind — the safety and security of our citizens. It’s something to be proud of,” said Chief Middleton.
