Darrell Sells indicted after allegedly threatening witness in Swift trial

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — A man has been indicted in Dyer County in relation to the trial of David Swift.

On January 25, Darrell Sells allegedly made threats to the witness in the trial at a Dyersburg restaurant.

Sells has since been indicted by the Dyer County grand jury for retaliation for a past action.

“There’s a fine line, whether it’s witness intimidation or retaliation for pact action,” said District Attorney Danny Goodman Jr. “And with the retaliation for past action, you’re just threatening them for something that they have done in the past as a part of the case, as either a witness, as a law enforcement, or someone who was involved with the case.”

Sells was booked into the Dyer County jail and released on bond.

He faces a Class E felony with a possible sentence of up to six years.

“Mr. Sells has never been a person of interest and still is not,” Goodman said. “There were allegations by a defense witness that he saw him there, and I don’t know whether he was there or not, but he’s never been considered a person of interest or a suspect.”

We reached out to Sells’ lawyer and have not heard back at this time.

Sells’ arraignment is set for February 18 at 1 p.m.
