Educator of the Week: Keri Anna Wolfe

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Keri Anna Wolfe is a 6th grade English teacher at Hardin County Middle School.

She credits a teacher she once had as the inspiration behind her career choice.

“Miss Theresa Caruthers, when I was in high school, she was my advanced algebra and trig teacher, and she just made all the difference to me,” Wolfe said. “Math was always my hardest subject and I did so well in her class that year because of her and I just knew that’s what I wanted to do, because of her.”

Wolfe is now in her 14th year of teaching.

She shares her favorite part of being an educator.

“The relationships that I can build with them and kind of get to know them and, you know, understand them and maybe why they understand English, why they don’t understand English, why they hate it, why they like it, that would be my favorite part,” Wolfe said.

She explains her approach to teaching.

“You’ll hear most kids tell you, if you ask them about me, I am strict. I do like a very structured classroom so that, I would say, as far as my style, it is very structured. Group work kind of makes me struggle sometimes ’cause I feel like we’re kind of off task, but this year’s group of kids have been great with that, like, they’re great with group work and great with working together.”

For future educators, Wolfe shares a reminder that each student learns differently.

“The most important thing is, when you go in there, can you make sure that each kid’s getting out of it what they need to get out of it in that hour that you have them? So, just, be open minded and be prepared to really, just, focus on each kid.”

She says she’s thankful for her nomination.

“It’s an honor. Like I never, never dreamed that anybody would ever nominate me for this,” Wolfe said. “I feel really good.”

Wolfe is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
