Flood threat high in Hardin County with more rain on the way

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — A severe weather and significant flood threat looks to be on the way for many parts of West Tennessee.

Meteorologists predict some areas could see up to five inches of rain through late Saturday night.

Heavy rain on top of saturated grounds and already swollen creeks, rivers, and streams could lead to a big problem.

“Some of our lower lying roads and river-lying river lots and stuff like that will start going under,” said EMA Director for Hardin County, LaRae Smiley-Sliger.

Hardin County Emergency Management recommends to know what river level will take your lot under.

“When the river hits 370, Coffee Landing roads, Box Elder Road, that general area because it’s in the bottoms, we know it goes under,” she said.

EMA also recommend to be prepared and have a plan to get you and your property out safely.

“If you’re on one of the river lots that you’ve got a camper, know what level that that camper will go under,” she said.

You can expect roads to be closed or blocked off with signage.

It is never recommended to drive through a flooded road or go past signs warning of flooded roads.

“If you’re not familiar with the area, make sure you look at your GPS or your map and know another way to get around.”
