Gangster Disciple sentenced to 9 years on gun, counterfeit cash charges

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Gangster Disciple has been sentenced to over nine years in prison on charges of illegal gun possession and carrying counterfeit cash, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of West Tennessee.

Tarrice Martez McCarley, 32, has been sentenced to serve 110 months in federal prison, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges stemmed from a Jan. 5, 2016, traffic stop in which Jackson police said McCarley was carrying a loaded handgun and 11 counterfeit $100 bills, according to the release.

Police said McCarley got out of the car with the loaded .38-caliber revolver in his hand. He then reportedly dropped the gun and ran from the scene and was captured a short time later.

At the time, McCarley was a several-time convicted felon, according to the release.

Police say McCarley admitted to buying the gun from someone on the street for $100.

The case was investigated by the Jackson Police Department Gang Enforcement Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
