Burglar Caught on Camera Stealing Cash and IOU Tickets

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn.- Deputies are searching for a burglar who sauntered into a Henderson County cafe and stole the cash register early Wednesday morning. The suspect was caught on surveillance walking into Reagan Cafe and causally picking up the register and walking out. “When you see the surveillance video, you see that he didn’t act scared, didn’t act nervous,” Capt. Tracey Grisham of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Dept said. ” He just walks in slowly takes his time, not in a rush, like it was nothing and it was nothing to him because he didn’t put the blood sweat and tears in for it.” Owner of the business Bull Mayo told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the burglar not only stole cash but customer IOU tickets that documented several customer bills. Mayo said their business has run on a system of faith and trust with customers for more than 30 years. “That’s what we are here for, we are here to help the community any way we can and for somebody to take advantage of us the way this person did it really breaks your heart more than anything,” Mayo said. Deputies said the burglar drove through the parking lot in a SUV, parked around the back of the building, then traveled across a narrow ledge to get to the back door. Investigators believe he then kicked through the back door casually walked through the restaurant to take the register. “It’s somebody who knew the atmosphere knew the hours knew the terrain and knew which door to go to that was the only door that was not barricaded,” Mayo said. Owners said the repairs will be expensive but they are confident that customers will honor their IOU tickets. “Well our customers tell us they don’t know what they’d do without us but in reality we don’t know what we’d do without them,” Mayo said. Investigators said the suspect was driving a red SUV and wearing a red Budweiser Jacket with a white cloth pulled over his face. The suspect is also described on the surveillance video as having a unique walk.
