Madison County deputy named 2024 ‘Officer of the Year’
JACKSON, Tenn. — A member of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department is being recognized for making a difference in the community.
The Jackson Exchange Club is honoring the 2024 Officer of the Year. Each year the club honors an outstanding member of the law enforcement community, alternating each year between the city and county.
This year, they recognize Deputy Michael Clark of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
“From day one I realized it was a blessing and this was the route I wanted to go with my career. I thought that we wanted to do it for a while but after being in there just one day it’s wonderful. I go home each day satisfied with what I’ve done throughout the day,” said Clark.
Madison County Mayor AJ Massey also presented Clark with a proclamation making March 4 Michael Clark Day.
These achievements represent not only his character and work ethic, but also his dedication to making a difference.
“I’m a little overwhelmed. This took me by complete surprise. I had no idea until I pulled up like I told these guys. I pulled up and seen my truck — my personal truck — in the parking lot and I was like ‘What’s going on?’ My sergeant had called and said we had to come up here and give a little speech, plus teach a class on some things that goes on in the school,” said Clark.
Clark tells us one of his most cherished moments on the job.
“Last week I had a student in particular that was taking a test and it was a hands on test. He had his teacher text me to come in the room and watch it because he was excited for me to see it. You know things like that, people don’t see it but it’s been a blessing being able to experience all that with them,” said Clark.
Clark started in August of 2023 in as an SRO officer for Northeast Middle School, and he’s previously worked for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Lexington Police Department.
At the end of the ceremony, Clark’s coworkers were able to share kind words about his hard work.
