World Glaucoma Week: How a global initiative is raising awareness

JACKSON, Tenn. — In news you can use, World Glaucoma Week 2025, is happening now through March 15.

World Glaucoma Week unites health organizations and charities globally to raise awareness about glaucoma, with Glaucoma UK urging participants to prioritize eye health by booking eye tests, spreading awareness, or learning more about the disease.

Leaders say this year’s awareness week overlaps with Ramadan and St. Patrick’s Day, which, despite diverse backgrounds, many share common practices such as bringing families, friends and communities together for prayers, feasts and social activities.

“So people don’t usually know that they have it unless they’ve gone and got their eyes tested. We can lose up to 40% of our outside vision before it starts to tend to impact our day to day lives,” said Robyn Asprey, development manager.

The charity encourages making eye health a conversation during these celebrations, noting that a simple discussion could inspire someone to book a sight-saving eye test.
