City of Dyersburg considers major roads plan

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — The City of Dyersburg had a Planning and Commission meeting where only a few items were on the agenda.

One of which was to discuss the City’s major roads plan. The roads plan was funded by a Tennessee transportation planning grant. Emily Ritzler, Southern States Advisory Business Line Lead, presented the information to the committee.

“So you’ll see those types of recommendations in the report,” Ritzler said. “These are strictly recommendations for you all to consider. Possibly moving forward, if you all want to do an ordinance change to bring those two pieces together.”

Ritzler said that the city had been working with the Department of Transportation on updating the functional classifications of the roadways. This tells how each roadway is used and what its purpose is.

“That tool will be able to be used by the city as you’re looking to approve future developments and things like that, and how does it align with the transportation system,” said Ritzler. “So all that data will be in one place and easy to access. You can zoom into it and it’s a lot of fun. So we’ll make sure you have that to check it out.”

This, of course, is not the first time a city has used grant funding to get studies and recommendations similar to these.

“Under these planning grants, we are completing 12 of them at the moment around the state with different teams,” Rtizler said. “They’re all a little bit different with what they do. So we have a few that are updates to major road plans like this.”

There is also data that was gathered regarding congestion, as well as accident reports.

The City’s previous major road plan was prepared in 2006 to 2007.
