Madison County Highway Committee talks list of roads set for repair

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Highway Committee met Thursday to discuss the 2025-2026 road list and other agenda items.

The committee gathered at the Madison County Complex building to discuss several agenda items. Among those items was the approval of the 2025-2026 road list.

“This year, there were only a couple of very minor changes to the road list from last year,” said Bart Walls, Chief Administration Officer/Highway Superintendent, Madison County. “One short road was added that apparently was never on the list, Baker Drive, over in Northmeade Woods subdivision. And then we made just a little administrative correction on a description on Fiberglass Road.”

Over the years, the county has prioritized bridge repair.

The paving projects significantly impact county residents on their daily commutes.

“Currently, the county is undergoing an almost $8 million paving project, which will be the largest single paving project that Madison County’s ever undertaken,” Walls said. “That should be wrapping up in May or June of this year.”

With the Federal American Rescue Plan grant, the county can utilize a new software to locate and repair pipe issues much quicker.

“As part of that grant, we have chosen approximately 47 to 48 of the worst culverts in the county to replace with that grant money, and that project was,” said Walls.

As the county continues these improvements, residents can expect one to two road closures at a time.
