Hospitals are increasingly using AI assistants to handle scheduling, preparation and patient questions about surgeries and other medical procedures.

It’s the latest of example of AI’s rapid inroads into health care, where hospital executives are adopting sophisticated algorithms to monitor patients and direct care.

Until recently, those tasks and many others were performed by nurses.

Now nursing unions are pushing back against the trend, organizing demonstrations against AI and bargaining for contract protections protecting their members.
