Shiloh National Military Park to Commemorate the 163rd Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh with Cannon Firing Demonstrations and Historical Hikes

SHILOH, Tennessee — Shiloh National Military Park is honored to announce a series of events commemorating the 163rd anniversary of the historic Battle of Shiloh. The observance will begin with Civil War cannon firing demonstrations on Saturday, April 5, followed by immersive historical hikes and auto tours from April 6 to April 8, 2025.

“This year marks the 163rd anniversary of the pivotal Civil War battles preserved within our park, starting with the Battle of Shiloh in April, continuing with the Siege of Corinth through May, and concluding with the October Battles of Corinth and Davis Bridge,” said Park Superintendent Catherine Bragaw. “We invite everyone to visit the park to reflect on the events that unfolded here in 1862 and honor the service of the American soldiers who fought on these grounds.”

Cannon Firing Demonstrations: On Saturday, April 5, visitors can experience live cannon firing demonstrations by the Shiloh volunteer crew, showcasing the park’s 6- pounder Field Piece. Demonstrations will take place at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., with two cannon firings per session.

Historic Hikes and Auto Tours: From April 6 through April 8, park rangers will lead guided hikes and car caravan tours exploring key aspects of the battle, from strategic movements to pivotal engagements at significant locations. To manage group sizes, hikes are limited to 45 participants, and auto tours to 10 vehicles. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged by calling the Shiloh Visitor Center at (731) 689-5696.
