Litter cleanup efforts kick off in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Great American Cleanup is a nationwide effort, from March to June, to clean and beautify communities.

The City of Jackson’s ‘Keep Jackson Beautiful,’ and neighborhood services ‘Love Your Block‘ are teaming up with Keep America Beautiful for the Great American Cleanup there will be litter cleanups across the City of Jackson.

The cleanups kicked off on March 8, with a litter clean up where volunteers gathered more than 80 pounds of litter. There are about 11 scheduled litter pick ups going through June.

“Anyone that has a group or a church or anyone that gets sick and tired of driving around and seeing the trash on your corners and everything, this is a great opportunity for you to make a difference,” said Johnetta Black, chairwoman for Keep Jackson Beautiful.

For those hoping to help, you’re encouraged to start small, pick up trash when you come across it and keep a trash bag in your car to avoid littering.
