Microchip company shuts down, pet owners urged to re-register

JACKSON, Tenn. — Pet owners, it’s time to take action.

A major microchip supplier called “Save This Life” has gone out of business, leaving thousands of pets potentially untraceable. The chips won’t be deactivated, but your pet’s information could be lost.

To ensure your furry friend’s safety, now is the time to re-register your pet’s microchip with a new provider.

“So what it means is you need to get your microchip number and if you don’t already have it, you can get that by taking your pet in to any vet’s office that has a microchip scanner and getting your pet’s microchip scanned, which is free, and then they’ll give you that microchip number, and then you can re-register that microchip with any company,” said Amber Spearman, veterinary practice manager for North Madison Animal Hospital and the Jackson Animal Clinic.

Don’t wait, re-register your pet’s microchip and keep them safe.
