JCS partners with nonprofits to provide 15,000 meals to community
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Christian students volunteered to pack meals and give back to their community.

Juniors and seniors at Jackson Christian School participated in a week of service including meal packing. This is known as “Flight Week,” where the school encourages and provides aid to the community.

“This year specifically we wanted to find a way to keep meals here in Jackson. We know that Jackson, there’s a lot of our neighbors that face food insecurity, and we know West Tennessee is considered a food desert, and so, it’s been an opportunity to educate our students about that, but also, just to give them an opportunity to serve and to give back and to partner with local organizations that are doing a great job to help meet that need,” said Luke Guard, educator at JCS.

JCS partnered with the Pack Shack to donate 15,000 meals to RIFA and ARM.

“This is just a great opportunity. Sometimes it’s hard for students to find time or they don’t know the resources, and so it being brought to us is just a great way and a easy way to help our community,” said Tess Little, student at JCS.
These students got even more involved and turned the event into a competition. Each group competed against the next to see who will reach their goal the quickest.

“It’s pretty intense. It gets real messy though, but it’s really fun,” said Skylan Staten, student at JCS.
Food insecurity is a huge struggle in West Tennessee. Educators and students say they’re thankful for the opportunity to help and humbled about this reality.
“We believe as Christians that we’re called to serve and this is a great opportunity to show that, and exemplify that just to our community,” said Staten.
“It’s just such a great feeling knowing that the work that you’re doing is going to help somebody who really needs it,” said Little.
Educators say their students were excited about the opportunity to pack and use their gifts to serve their neighbors.
