Warrants reveal details of North Highland shooting
JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update regarding a shooting that left two injured.
Earlier Wednesday, four people appeared in court in connection to the shooting on North Highland.
After reading Jackson City Court documents, we were able to discover the events that led to the shooting.
According to court records, surveillance showed that words were exchanged between passengers of two vehicles. The Jackson City Court documents state that passengers of a Dodge vehicle exchanged words with a Nissan that was parked at a gas pump of a gas station at the corner of Campbell and Highland. The Dodge then parked behind the Nissan.
According to court records, 33-year-old Courtney Boyland leaned out of the front passenger seat of the Dodge looking at the Nissan. 19-year-old Jakobe Shaw was in the rear passenger of the Sodge. 19-year-old Kier Smith saw Shaw then opened fire towards Shaw.
Court records say that’s when passengers of the Nissan began firing shots towards the driver of the Dodge, and 32-year-old LaFrancese Johnson then fired shots towards the Nissan. Front passenger of the Dodge, Boyland, then began firing shots as well.
Both Johnson and Boyland then went to the Jackson General hospital due to Boyland’s injuries.
Court documents say Shaw began running on foot on Redbud Street and the passengers of the Nissan began chasing Shaw. Then, passengers of the Nissan got out of the vehicle and stood over Shaw to open fire. However, the gun jammed which led Shaw to running away.
After the first attempt of Shaw getting away, the passengers of the Nissan then found Shaw again and opened fire towards Shaw, striking him multiple times as detailed in court documents. Jackson Police Department officers then began chasing the Nissan. Passengers of the car, Smith, 20-year-old Destion Harrison and two other passengers fled the vehicle.
JPD officers then apprehended three of the passengers — including Harrison and Smith around the 100 block of Comanche Trail.
Smith has been charged with three counts of possession of a fire arm during the commission or attempt to commit a dangerous felony, three counts of reckless endangerment and four counts of 2nd degree murder attempted.
