Holly Bobo Case: Zach Adams reappears in court

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — The man convicted in 2017 of killing 20-year-old nursing student Holly Bobo was back in court Friday.

Zachary Adams is appealing his conviction with the hopes of being granted a new trial following his co-defendant, Jason Autry recanting his testimony — the testimony that solely got Adams convicted to life without the possibility of parole.

Adams appeared with his lawyer Doug Bates before Honorable Judge Brent Bradberry at Hardin County Circuit Court in Savannah.

Friday, the court granted a motion to appoint council for Jason Autry.

Among other things discussed were whether or not Katie Spirko, the licensed neuropsychologist who video recorded a conversation in prison with Autry about his testimony, could be used as a witness in a retrial.

Adams lawyers says Spirko will not be a witness if there is a retrial.

The state says they would not call her as a witness either because they feel she used her neuropsychology degree to get in the prisons and argues her credibility as an expert.

“The state of Tennessee has a right to look at her file and more importantly the court has a right to look at this file and to figure out what is going on and to see the pattern the state is starting to see very clearly, based upon everything that we have at our disposal, and that this is nothing but a Katie Spirko publicity campaign, and she’s trying to hide behind ‘Oh wait a minute you can’t touch me because actually I’m a neuropsychologist somedays’,” said the prosecutor.

Following the court hearing arguments on the motions Judge Brent Bradberry ordered, the rest of the hearing sealed. Now we wait for a decision to be released regarding if Adams will receive a new trial.
