Lawn care assistance program returns to the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — A lawn care assistance program is returning to the Hub City for spring and summer 2025.

The Love Your Block Lawn Care Assistance Program is back for homeowners who cannot maintain their lawns due to age, disability, or hardship.

The applications for the program opened March 24 and will remain open until March 31.

We spoke with City of Jackson Neighborhood Specialist, Elvia Trejo, for her insight into the program.

“So long as you live within the city limits, you have a health issue, so if you’re disabled or have any other — we had a resident say they had chronic back pain and that’s why she can’t mow her own lawn, or there’s nobody under the age of 62 able to mow her lawn, and then just live within the city limits,” Trejo said.

The lawn care assistance will run from May through August, and the work will be done by volunteers.

Trejo explains how the program will be run once applicants have been selected.

“So we’re trying to do about five per district, but if District 4 has zero applicants, and District 8 has ten, then we’ll just go based on that. We have nine districts in Jackson,” said Trejo.

By providing this service, the program is preventing code violations and helping to preserve the beauty and safety of our community.
