City holds 2nd annual Jackson Vendor Expo

JACKSON, Tenn. — Meeting leaders and learning what they can provide was the main goal Wednesday morning in downtown Jackson.

The 2nd annual Jackson Vendor Expo gathers city leaders from every single department together under one roof, at one time. This is a great opportunity for people to learn how they can work with them.

“Kind of just letting all of our vendors or anybody that wants to work with the City to meet all of our different departments and get to know exactly what every department does for the City,” said Jamayla Hill, Purchaser, City of Jackson.

This event is mainly for businesses, people wanting to plan events, or different organizations. However, meeting these different departments can help anyone who is involved with the City of Jackson.

“It both shows off potential for new business, new contracts for the City, as well as a connective tissue for citizens to learn about something new that the City is doing,” said Zach Polk, Purchasing Director for the City of Jackson. “We have both departments that do events, versus departments that do community outreach, versus departments that do stuff behind the scenes that people wouldn’t see.”

With this being only the second event, this concept is still pretty new. However, the first year was successful and a lot was learned.

“Both departments and vendors absolutely loved it,” Polk said. “We had people that were not even trying to sell anything that actually left saying ‘We didn’t know this was something the City does.’ This is still new. We want to grow each year, but it was positive all around.”

Anyone can come to this event in the future and no registration is required.

Polk says they plan to do this in the springtime each year, so be on the lookout for the next time this event is held.
