Storm recap, tips to prevent water damage
JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s set to be a wild week for weather in West Tennessee. We have an update on Sunday night’s storm damage as well as tips on prepping for extreme rainfall.
We received reports of damage across West Tennessee from Sunday night’s storm system.
The Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo sent us photos of damage to their drive-in theater. The park confirmed it is still operating at normal capacity.
The only storm in West Tennessee to become tornado warned moved through Lexington, where we found a fallen tree on a house on Shady Hill Road.
The City of Lexington Street Department confirmed no roads are closed at this time. The break from severe weather will be short lived as we have a risk for severe weather again on Wednesday and Thursday. On top of that, portions of West Tennessee have a moderate risk for excessive rainfall.
We have some tips on how to protect your home.
- Clean your gutters: Clogged gutters can cause damage to the roof which can cause leaks.
- Protect your roof: You should get your roof inspected for missing shingles and general wear and tear.
- Clear your storm drain: If you have a storm drain nearby, make sure it is clear of any debris.
Aside from water damage, make sure to clean up any fallen limbs that could be thrown by strong winds. Also tie down any outdoor furniture as high winds are expected again on Wednesday.
