Residents share stories after tornado passes through Kenton

KENTON, Tenn. — Severe weather has left damage across Kenton, some residents say they are lucky to be alive.

One tornado ripped through Kenton last night leaving a trail of debris and damage. One family took shelter in their bathroom as it passed through their yard and moved further down the road.

We spoke with several residents who recall the exact moment the tornado passed them by.

“I stepped outside and told everybody. I did also. You know, we seen the funnel cloud come up this way, and it wasn’t too far after that, that’s when the sirens started going off again. Well everybody else was inside. See, we acknowledged it after y’all called us, and we looked out and we tried to see it was trying to form, but it didn’t land,” said one resident.

The tornado left a multitude of damage behind.

“That right there, the trees and all that are from the yard. Oh, they’re from the yard. Yes, sir. And it hit the barn, and it flipped the little shed over down there,” said one resident.

Several power poles were also snapped in the storm, leaving many residents without power. Several crews are still working to clear the debris and get the power back on.

“My son, he started freaking out. He was having an asthma attack, and I told him, I said ‘Buddy God’s got us.’ And I said you’ll see in the morning. Well, when he woke up, he seen all the trees laying next to the house and nothing touched on the house. I said ‘I told you, God’s got his hands on the house. God is good’,” said one resident.

One family’s house sustained minor damage, and they say they are thankful the tornado didn’t hit them.
