Donations needed after destructive storms hit West TN

JACKSON, Tenn. — Following devastating storms across West Tennessee, many communities are left without necessary resources. To help, multiple organizations have come together to provide aid to those who need it most.

Below is a list of resources for victims and places now accepting donations for relief efforts:

Resources for those affected 

First United Methodist Church

First United is providing free food for victims. They are located at 310 W Court Avenue, Selmer.

Jackson State Community College

If you or any JSCC students you know have been displaced or need assistance, reach out to foundation@jscc.edu and detail any needs you have.

Mercy Chefs

Mercy Chefs will be providing free meals to victims at McNairy County AG Event Center, located at 851 High School Road in Selmer. Other distribution points include: First Baptist Selmer at 310 West Court Avenue and Lakeview Church at 877 West Cherry Street. At this time, Mercy Chefs is serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 – 6 p.m. from all three locations.

McNairy County Schools

If you know of students whose homes have sustained damage or have been impacted by the storms email forsythe@mcnairy.org for assistance.

Ray of Hope Thrift Store

Ray of Hope, located at 217 E. Court Avenue in Selmer, is offering clothing and blankets for those in immediate need.

Red Cross

If your home was destroyed or damaged in the storm call 1-800-RedCross and select “Report a New Disaster” and someone from the American Red Cross will contact you.

Selmer Community Center

The Selmer Community Center is acting as the Red Cross Shelter headquarters. People who need a place to stay can go and register with the Red Cross.   

Red Cross Storm Relief Assistance is providing meals, safe housing, showers and transition assistance back into the community. The Salvation Army is offering mental and physical healthcare services and spiritual services.

Jesus Cares is helping with rehousing, locating housing and assistance with deposits. For immediate housing assistance only, go see Gene Gant at the Community Center. He can also be reached at 731-307-7372—but please only call if you are unable to come to the Community Center in person.

Where to donate

Gibson County 911 Communications

Items needed:

  • Cases of water
  • Nonperishable/individually wrapped snacks
  • Plastic totes for storage

Donations can be dropped off at 1450 S. Main Street, Dyer. Cash donations are not accepted. Call 731-692-3714 for pickup.

Hardeman County Baptist Association 

Items needed:

  • Hygiene products
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Toilet paper
  • Water
  • Clothing (New preferred; slightly used will be accepted)

Donations can be dropped of at 755 Vildo Road in Bolivar on Friday, April 4 from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. Donation hours for Saturday, April 5 are to be determined. If you have any other questions, contact Brother Kenny Koeneman at 901-828-2113 or brintschapelpastor@gmail.com.

Hardeman County Schools

Items needed:

  • Paper towels
  • Paper plates
  • Toilet tissue
  • Cleaning supplies/Disinfecting Wipes
  • Bottled water
  • Bottled and can drinks
  • Ready to eat nonperishables
  • Snack foods
  • Garbage bags
  • Gloves
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights

Donations should be dropped off at Hardeman Co. Schools STEM Learning Center located at 909 Pruitt St. in Bolivar. Items will be provided to victims in Grand Junction and Middleton first. Hardeman County Sheriff Department and Communities in Schools will assist with distribution.

Items can be dropped off Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and Monday, April 7 at 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. Other groups are welcome to use this as a distribution drop point for these items if needed. No monetary items will be accepted.

Jackson State Community College Collections

Items needed:

  • Food
  • Emergency supplies

JSCC is accepting donations at their main campus, located at 37 Alumni Drive, Jackson.

McNairy County Ag Event Center

Items needed:

  • Nonperishable items
  • Toiletries

Donations can be dropped off at 851 High School Road, Selmer. For questions, call Dr. Martin at 731-645-2776

Selmer Community Center

Items needed:

Feminine products

  • Bath Towels/wash clothes
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Body wash
  • Brushes
  • Combs
  • Toothbrush/ toothpaste
  • Totes/Plastic storage bins
  • Diapers/baby food/wipes
  • Socks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Power banks
  • First aid products
  • Pain relievers
  •  Batteries
  • Flash lights
  • Non-Perishable foods

Donations can be dropped off at 230 N. 5th Street, Selmer. The McNairy County Long Term Disaster Relief Group is also accepting checks. Mail checks to Jesus Cares, located at 120 W Court St, Selmer or drop them off at the Jesus Cares office.

UTM Parsons Center

Items needed:

  • Cases of water
  • Gatorade
  • Individually wrapped snacks
