Benton Co. deputies investigate body found in TN River

UPDATE — Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher confirms there is a homicide investigation underway after a body was pulled Thursday from the Tennessee River.

The sheriff says a man’s body was found by fishermen. He says markings on the body led investigators to believe foul play was involved.

The victim, who has not been identified, is a white male who appears to be in his 30s, according to the sheriff.

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating after a body was pulled from the Tennessee River Thursday afternoon near the Benton County and Humphreys County line.

Fishermen found the body snagged on a trotline around 1:45 p.m., according to Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher.

The body will be sent to Nashville for an autopsy. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed they are assisting in the investigation.
