Winter Storm Warning for Most of West TN Friday

Weather Update – 2:15 p.m.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for most of West Tennessee from midnight tonight through 6 p.m. Friday evening. In these areas, snow and ice will accumulate Friday morning and afternoon making travel difficult in the Mid-South. McNairy and Hardin counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory where snow and ice accumulations will be lower.

Weather Update – 12:15 p.m.

A very mild and somewhat muggy morning so far. Temperatures are in the lower 60s this morning thanks to a southerly wind at 10 – 15 mph so far this morning. Those winds will pick up as an arctic front makes it’s approach tonight. Ahead we expect scattered showers and storms to increase especially later this afternoon as a secondary area of low pressure deepens in east Texas. It looks like for now the arctic front will arrive at the Mississippi River around or just before Midnight. What ever that temperature is at that time will be the high temperature for the day. The rest of Friday temps will be tumbling  below freezing by 5 or 6 am. This will change the existing precipitation from plain rain over to freezing rain, then to sleet. The faster we go to sleet the better, and less impact on power lines and trees. Eventually this will end as snow, depending on how fast we get to snow will obviously affect those totals as well. Either way, traveling is expected to be hazardous much of the day on Friday, plan accordingly. I’ll have another full forecast update coming up at 11:30 on ABC Midday and at Noon on CBS.
