Hardin Co. EMA holds meeting to discuss hazard mitigation plan
SAVANNAH, Tenn. — Hardin County Emergency Management hosted an important meeting Monday.
The public presentation, held at the emergency operations center in Savannah, focused on the hazard mitigation plan for Hardin County.
This plan addresses the vulnerability of the county to hazards such as flooding, wildfires, tornadoes and winter storms and how to increase its resilience to these natural hazards.
The agenda included topics such as mitigation grants, project eligibility, and risk assessments. Multiple jurisdictions, elected officials, and non profit organizations were all present.
“Every jurisdiction fills out this big questionnaire that TEMA brings in and we go through that and then that questionnaire kinda sets up what projects we’re gonna put in the plan for each jurisdiction,” said Larae Sliger, emergency management director for Hardin County.
Sliger emphasizes the importance of preparation ahead of emergencies.
She encourages everyone to discuss emergency plans with family members ahead of time and to have an emergency tote with water, meds and important documents on standby.
