UPDATE: Driver charged in deadly Jackson hit-and-run

JACKSON, Tenn. — The driver in a deadly hit-and-run last week on the Highway 45 Bypass has now been charged.

David Darnell Case, 74, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death in the Jan. 25 hit-and-run, according to court documents.

The hit-and-run occurred around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of the Highway 45 Bypass.

The victim, Alexander Faust, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

A witness told police she was driving southbound on the bypass when a pedestrian tried to cross the road, according to an affidavit.

The witness told police she slowed down to avoid hitting the pedestrian but saw another southbound vehicle, a beige Nissan Altima, hit them and continue without stopping.

The witness followed the vehicle and got a tag number. Police located the vehicle a short time later in the 800 block of South Highland Avenue.

Police identified Case as the driver. There was significant damage to the front of his vehicle including a broken windshield, severe dents and what appeared to be a piece of the victim’s clothing caught in the hood, according to an affidavit.

Police say Case later admitted that he hit something while driving in the 1400 block of the bypass and didn’t stop, according to court documents.

We’ll have more details about the case this evening on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News at 5 and 6.
