St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church host its Easter service

JACKSON, Tenn.—In more Easter festivities, St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church kicks off their Easter tradition.

The main Easter service happens during the night beginning at 10:30 p.m. on April 19.

After getting a little bit of rest, they come back to the church again to sing “Christ is risen!” and hear the gospel proclaimed in multiple languages.

The service repeats many of the beautiful paschal hymns from the night before with a joyful procession.

Following the Vespers Service, members celebrate with the Agape Picnic.

“In the orthodox church, the way we celebrate the resurrection of Christ is through a midnight liturgy, so then at the moment Pascha (Easter) comes to us at midnight; we are like the five wise virgin in the scripture ready to meet the bride groom and receive his love and to celebrate the banquet feast of his resurrection,” said Father Matthew Snowden, St. Nicolas Orthodox Christian Church.

Their traditions for Easter throughout Holy Week is the way they remember the resurrection of Christ.
