Dr. William R. Durham Performing Arts Center opens at Riverside High

DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. — One Decatur County school welcomes a new fine arts building.

The Dr. William R. Durham Performing Arts Center is now open at Riverside High School.

“The Addams Family” musical will be the first play production to perform on the stage, running from May 1 through May 4.

The center honors the late Dr. William R. Durham, a Decatur native and drama teacher who passed in 1989.

“His brother Jim Ayers wanted to be able name this building in his memory, so he gave a — he and his family — gave a large contribution for this performing arts center, which we are very proud to have for our students here at Riverside High School,” said Chris Villaflor, Director of Decatur County Schools.

Philanthropist Jim Ayers died on April 1 of this year.  Ayers was one of Tennessee’s most influential business leaders, and this center is just one example of the generosity he exhibited throughout his lifetime.
