WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The showers and storms from early this morning have cleared out and we are expecting a couple of mostly dry days here in West Tennessee to kick off the work week. Highs in general will be near 80° this week with lows typically around 60°. Rain showers and storm chances increase as we head toward the back half of the work week and some will linger into the weekend. Are we expecting severe weather though? We will have the latest right here.

THIS WEEK:

After a round of storms Sunday night into Monday morning, the weather calmed down pretty quickly during the day on Monday. Temperatures were a little cooler behind the front and reached the mid 70s. Monday night will be quiet with calm winds and overnight lows dropping into the mid 50s. The skies will remain partly cloudy and partly cloudy skies are expected for the majority of the forecast this week. There will be some pop up showers and storms but overall the severe weather threat looks pretty low this week for us.

Tuesday will be a bit warmer with highs making it up to around 80°. Skies will be partly cloudy and the winds will be light and come out of the east. The east winds will be on the backside of a high pressure system sitting to the north of us but that should keep the rain showers away on Tuesday. Tuesday night lows will fall to the upper 50s with the winds being light out of the east or calm.

Wednesday will be a bit warmer with highs reaching the low 80s. There will be a mix of sun and clouds and the humidity will climb a bit. That could lead to a few pop up showers but we are not expecting much. Rain chances on Wednesday will be 20%. A weak storm or two could pop up but most if not all of us will not be seeing them on Wednesday. The winds will stay out of the east during the day but will slowly turn back to the south Wednesday night into the day on Thursday. Wednesday night lows will fall down to around 60°.

Shower and storm chances will increase late in the day on Thursday but we are not expecting severe storms. That being said, any pop ups that go up could produce some lightning and some brief heavy rain. The storms will be of the pop up variety so knowing exactly when and where they are going to pop up will be difficult to forecast. Chances for rain on Thursday sit at 60% late in the day and some could linger Thursday night as well, but most of the showers will be in the afternoon and evening hours. Thursday highs will reach the low 70s and Thursday night lows will be warm and drop to the mid 60s. We will see more clouds than sun on Thursday and the winds are forecast to come out of the south.

The best chance for showers and storms this week looks to be on Friday. There is a chance we get put under a level 1 (marginal risk) for severe storms and although a level 2 (slight risk) cannot be ruled out, we are not expecting significant severe weather or tornadoes at this time. Highs on Friday will reach the upper 70s and we are expecting mostly cloudy skies. Friday will be humid as well and overnight lows will fall down to the mid 60s to kick off our weekend. The winds on Friday will come out of the southwest. Rain chances on Friday are currently 70%.

THE WEEKEND:

There will be some storm and shower chances this weekend with Saturday looking more likely that Sunday as of now to be impacted by them. Rain chances on Saturday sit at 40% and chances on Sunday are at 20% as of now. Like late in the week, they will appear to be more of the pop up variety than severe weather driven. Some thunder and lightning and brief heavy rain will be possible this weekend but it doesn’t look like that type of weather that would require you to cancel your outdoor weekend plans; but be sure to monitor the radar and forecast if you are going to be outside doing events this weekend. Highs on Saturday will reach up to around 80° and Sunday highs could reach the mid 80s or low 80s. Saturday night lows will fall down to around 60° and Sunday night lows will drop down to the mid 60s. We have a chance for some low 90s next week by the way!
