Families gather at Discovery Park to watch Lyrid Meteor Shower
UNION CITY, Tenn. — Residents visited the Discovery Park of America in Union City for a special Astronomy Night. On Monday, Dr. Lionel Crews from the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Astronomy Department joined families as they experienced the Lyrid Meteor Shower. They gathered in the Great Lawn outside the Museum to try to catch a glimpse of the many meteors.
“So the Lyrid Meteor Shower is basically the result of a comet that came by in 1861 and left a trail of debris and every year our Earth moves through that trail creating a meteor shower” said Dr. Lionel Crews, Associate of Physics at University of Tennessee at Martin
