FDA approves new treatment option for Parkinson’s disease

JACKSON, Tenn. — Parkinson’s disease is the most common movement disorder, affecting nearly one million Americans.

Symptoms such as tremors, muscle rigidity, and difficulty with movement and balance often worsen over time and can significantly compromise a person’s everyday activities.

Medication can help manage symptoms, but treatment benefits often diminish or become less consistent over time.

The FDA recently approved a treatment that offers a new approach to treating these motor fluctuations – without the need to resort to invasive surgery.

Patients report alternating states between “on time,” when the medication is working well, and “off time,” when it no longer provides symptom benefit and movement-related symptoms return.

These on-again, off-again changes are disruptive and unpredictable – but the new treatment may help. Click here for more information.
